Margaret Steeden

Location: New Mills   /  Genre: Textile Art

Artist Statement

Margaret Steeden, aka Inspired Textiles, combines her love of nature, gardening and textiles when she contact prints original fabric and paper using leaves and flowers. There is no ink, paint or dye used when she encourages chemicals and tannins in the leaves and flowers to give up their magic and leave their unique fingerprints on the substrate. Not only does this vegetation give prints but natural dyes which Margaret utilises in her textile work. These unique surfaces are then used to make a variety of both 2D and 3D goods ranging from scarves, covered sketchbooks and notebooks, pouches, bags, cushions, cards and pictures many of which are embellished with hand embroidery.
