Jan Hoyle

Location: Chapel-en-le-Frith   /  Genre: Textiles; felting

Artist Statement

Jan uses the traditional method of wet felting as an expressive art form.
The inspiration for her work is derived from the rural landscape and her connection to it. Her felt landscapes convey the joy she feels when she is outside and she uses rich colours and texture to express this. Using merino wool, fibres, fabric and stitch she replaces the brush to create vibrant felted paintings where her love of colour shines through in abundance.

Jan has no formal training but has attended various workshops with renowned felt artists and has experimented with her work to develop her own style and technique. However, felting has a tendency to throw up the unexpected and Jan has learned to embrace this unpredictability. There is always a feeling of excitement when starting a new piece.
