Artist Statement

I have enjoyed painting for as long as I can remember and in recent years I've sold my work privately and through galleries. I produce paintings, prints, handmade cards, painted artefacts and mixed media pieces.

I have exhibited at numerous galleries and also at both the Wirksworth and Melbourne Art & Architecture Trails. My work has been regularly selected for the Derbyshire open Art Competition organised by the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery. The museum holds one of my mixed media pieces in its permanent collection.

I enjoy an approach to making which does not entirely rely on one single or restricted range of materials and techniques. My love of colour and texture means that I am attracted to a wide range of materials including fabrics, leather, papers, felt threads paint and found objects.

In my work I endeavour to use sustainable and recycled materials. Beads and other items are often salvaged from second hand garments and jewellery as are materials used for flat and surfaced collage.

Paintings often progress via a series of layers progressively scrapped and rubbed away. I like to embellish with line, stitch, metal leaf foil and sweet wrappers. I employ a wide range of print techniques including collagraph, lino and gelly print in order to further build up and and explore surface and pattern. In addition to paint and print I have pursued my interest in surface and colour by felt making including making felt brooches. recent work has been based on mosaic and creative stitch.

I'm all about colour and texture.
