Frances Daunt

Location: Holymoorside Nr Chesterfield   /  Genre: Art in various media

Artist Statement

Frances Daunt is an award-winning animal artist living in Derbyshire. As an animal lover she is fascinated in the 'soul' or character of animals and this shines through in her work.

Frances keeps her work fresh by working in a variety of media. She mainly works in oils or pastels and coloured pencils, creating artwork which is held in private collections world-wide. However, she finds that by using different media she is continually challenging herself and learning something new which helps keep her work fresh and interesting.

She is well known for her ever popular and rather unique map art. These are mixed media pictures painted directly on to vintage maps and then dry mounted and framed.

Although Frances loves to draw and paint the big cats, she is a nature watcher and so the birds and animals of the Derbyshire countryside are a particular source of inspiration for a lot of her work. Hares and badgers as well as kingfishers and owls regularly appear in her work especially on her map art.

Frances likes to use her work to spread a message of conservation and regularly donates work to animal charity fundraisers. Her work was part of the invitational selection for Explorers Against Extinction 2018 - 2021 and she also regularly donates to animal rescue centres.
