Artist Statement

I hold a deep respect for wood as a living entity, recognising its crucial role in our ecosystem and human history. So wood plays a major role in my work. All the substrates of my paintings, and the timber I use in sculpture and collage are reclaimed wood. Salvage, vintage, well-loved, preloved, repurposed or abandoned, each piece brings their unique character and story to the artwork.

In the meticulous process of restoring the wood, I unveil the natural beauty and age-old marks on each piece. The worn, weathered, patterned, and textured qualities of these marks serve as inspiration for my work.

I explore concepts of human identity intertwined with our planet, delving into the delicate relationship between humans and the forces of nature and our emotional response to the environment.

As a sustainable fine artist, I work predominantly in my outdoor studio amidst fresh air and daylight is central to my practice. I use filtered rain water, physical energy over electricity. This choice reflects my commitment to ensuring that my creative processes are as sustainable and carbon-neutral as possible
