Artist Statement

I am a professionally trained artist, based in Derbyshire. I studied sculpture and fine art drawing and painting in South Wales, before returning to Derbyshire completing my BA (Hons) in 2009. Although I started out as a ceramic sculptor, I haven’t always had the space to house my kilns. However, it was this setback that led me to explore my creativity through different mediums and once I discovered oil paint I was hooked. I feel blessed to live in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, but having lived by the sea for many years, I have a deep love of the British coast. Therefore, seascapes also feature quite heavily in my work. Being out in nature makes me feel alive, bringing a heightened awareness, and energy, engaging all the senses. I try to capture something of that feeling in my semi abstract landscape and seascape paintings. I hope that others will recognise something of that feeling, or connection through my work. Examples of my paintings and ceramic work are available to see on my website and you can contact me through my website should you wish to.
