Artist Statement

Although mosaics are an ancient art form I like to experiment with more contemporary styles and materials.

My inspiration comes both from my surroundings – particularly the animals in my rural neighbourhood, and from the materials I use – stained glass with its vibrancy and stunning colours, ceramics with their variety of tones and textures, and slate and rusted metal to bring even more subtle textures. I have recently been experimenting with more found objects and with more landscape inspired mosaics.

Commissioned work is always welcomed.

Mosaics can be produced on panels for independent hanging, in the studio for installation elsewhere, as well as being fixed directly on location.

Whether interpreting a client's ideas, or creating a unique piece, I really enjoy commissioned work as it very often takes me in a direction which I would not instinctively follow. It may then lead me on a new journey through my work.

I am a member of the High Peak Artists and have a permanent exhibition space with the group at the Gallery in the Gardens, Buxton.

I have been a member of the British Association for Modern Mosaics, and the Peak District Artisans
