Ann Lyon

Location: Hayfield   /  Genre: Ceramics

Artist Statement

Ann enjoys working with clay and constructing hand built ceramic pots and sculptures in stoneware and earthenware clay.

Her work is influenced by the strong, bold shapes of traditional ceramic pots.
The original shape is then decorated with detail and colour to reflect the natural forms and lines of the environment and in particular the Peak District. Underglazes are used to create the subtle changing colours of the landscape and further enhanced by transparent glaze.

Working from photographs and pictures and moving away from her work on ceramic pots Ann has used the idea of a plaque to represent the built up and natural environment of the surrounding area. Oxides rather than glazes are used in this context to highlight shapes and contours.

Figures and heads, based on photographs of characters from the past, have formed part of her work in a contrast to the landscape work.
